Hey! If you're not totally happy with your current phone service provider you can switch to Virgin Mobile. And you can keep your phone number. We won't charge you to switch either. Here's what you need to know.

Switching to Virgin Mobile in two easy steps


  • Don't deactivate your existing phone number just yet. If you do, that number won't be yours to switch any more.
  • When you're ready to bring your phone number to Virgin Mobile, just hook up to our prepaid service or a myPlan™ monthly package. We'll take it from there.

Told you it would be easy.

Switching your mobile number usually takes two to three hours, sometimes longer. Switching a landline takes at least a couple days. Best of all, we won’t charge you to switch. (Your existing phone company might, though, so make sure you find out before you switch.)

What we'll need to help you switch

If you're switching your mobile phone number to Virgin Mobile, we'll need 1 of the following:

  • Your existing account number that your service provider gave you, or
  • The electronic serial number (ESN) or Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) on the back of your phone

If you're switching your landline number to Virgin Mobile, we'll need:

  • Your phone number
  • Your name and billing address as they appear on your bill
  • The account number that the other phone company gave you

That's it.

The magic of Wireless Number Portability

Because of Wireless Number Portability (WNP), you can keep your existing landline number or mobile phone number when you switch to a new mobile phone company. Numbers in most Canadian cities are available for switching right now.

Can you switch?

If your phone number is active and you live in an area where we have coverage then you can move your phone number to Virgin Mobile. Not sure if you can switch

  • Check out crtc.gc.ca/cisc/eng/Portable.htm (phone numbers in cities not appearing in bold can already switch)
  • Give us a shout at 1.888.999.2321 and we'll find out for you

If you really, really, wanna switch but it looks like your number isn't good to go yet, you can visit the Number Portability Administration Centre (NPAC) website at npac.com and search for your area code and the first three digits of your phone number (for example, "416-555", remembering to include the hyphen). You can use the website to check back every couple of weeks to see if your number is eligible for switching to Virgin Mobile.
