HOW IT WORKS

Making a call: Just keep doing what you’re doing. If you’re in the VoLTE area, everything will improve automatically.

Making a video call: Just select the video call icon, call another Virgin Mobile Member with a compatible phone and it’ll feel like they’re right there next to you.

Heads up! Video calling over LTE isn't available on the iPhone.

Switch from voice to video: Just tap the video icon on the voice call screen to see the person you’re talking to.

Switch from video to voice: Tap the voice call button to turn off the video and switch to a voice call without dropping the call.

Receiving a video call: You’re in control. When a video call is coming in you can decide if you want to see, hear, or just text them back later.

Enable or disable Voice and Video over LTE: Want to go old school and turn off the high quality voice and video? Go to the phone dial pad and select More > Settings > Voice over LTE > Do not allow VoLTE calls. This will also disable video calling.

Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and Video over LTE (ViLTE) ROAMING IN THE U.S.

It's possible for select devices to make and get calls over the LTE network, while roaming in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands).

The following devices are capable of VoLTE/ViLTE roaming:

Apple devices only support VoLTE
  • iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XR, XS and XS Max
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
Must be operating on iOS 13 or higher
  • iPhone 6S and 6S Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 7 and 7 Plus
Must be operating on iOS 13.4 or higher
Samsung devices support VoLTE & ViLTE
  • Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+
  • Samsung Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10e
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 9, 10 and 10+
Must be operating on Android 10 or later

More devices will be added in the future.

Note: If VoLTE/ViLTE network coverage is not available in the area you're visiting, roaming will be available over the 4G HSPA network.

How will I be billed for VoLTE Roaming in the US (including Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands)?

  • VoLTE: Regular voice roaming rates apply while Roaming in the US.
  • ViLTE: Regular voice roaming and data roaming rates apply while using ViLTE in the US.
  • While roaming in the US, VoLTE and ViLTE calls on your bill will be identified as "USA" under the "City" and "VoLTE" under the "Call Type".

Note: ViLTE calls made while roaming in the US will appear in two components: VoLTE and Data roaming in the usage section of the bill.

Got questions? We can help.

Coverage

  • Can I access VoLTE outside of Canada ?

Yes. VoLTE & ViLTE is available in the US, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands on select devices.

  • What happens if I leave the coverage area during a call?

If you leave the Voice and Video over LTE coverage area during a voice call, it will switch seamlessly to a regular voice call over the HSPA network.
Please note that video calling is only available within the Voice and Video over LTE coverage area. If you leave the coverage area while on a video call, it’ll automatically transition into a regular voice call over the HSPA network. To switch back to video calling, you must be in a Voice and Video over LTE coverage area and restart the video call by hanging up and calling again.

  • Can I make video calls over a Wi-Fi connection?

No. Video calling on Android phones only works on a mobile network connection, even if your phone is connected to Wi-Fi.

Heads up! Video calling over LTE isn't available on the iPhone.
