Our goal is to get 450 youth jobs in the next three years.

At Virgin Mobile, we love throwing a party, especially when it’s for a great cause like Virgin Mobile RE*Generation. Who better to help us host our next event than the Virgin founder himself, Sir Richard Branson! Monday September 8, 2014, Sir Richard Branson joined us in Toronto to announce Virgin Mobile RE*Generation’s new focus, partners and programs in true Virgin style.

Virgin Mobile RE*Generation is our pro-social initiative that focuses on supporting and helping at-risk and homeless youth in Canada. The story goes, that when Richard first came to Canada he noticed that there were far too many youth sleeping on the streets, which shouldn’t be the case in a first-world country. This inspired us to create Virgin Mobile RE*Generation to help fight youth homelessness. Working with our partners, we’ve identified how we can make more of an impact and help get youth off the streets and into a workplace. To do this, we’re investing in programs that help at-risk and homeless youth develop the skills they need to get and keep jobs. Our goal is to get 450 youth jobs in the next three years. And this is just the start.

Virgin’s roots are in music, so we couldn’t just make this bold announcement and walk away, that wouldn’t be the Virgin way. Instead we invited former Virgin Mobile RE*Generation partner, the Canadian rockers Arkells to play an exclusive concert for our employees, partners and Members at the Virgin Mobile Mod Club following the announcement.

We spent the night dancing to new tunes off Arkells’ latest album High Noon and some hits from their infamous Motown set.

The evening was a complete success and we can’t wait to talk to you more about Virgin Mobile RE*Generation as we continue to focus on helping at-risk and homeless youth emerge from the cycle of homelessness. To learn more or find out how you can help check out virginmobile.ca/regen.

Some weeks are better than others, that’s obvious, but some weeks are the kind that you never forget and the past five days at the Virgin Mobile Movie Lounge were that kind of week! Since last Thursday, we’ve been spending our evenings sending Virgin Mobile Members to great festival films followed by epic after parties with the cast and in one special case, a killer pre-party followed by a midnight screening of Kevin Smith’s new walrus themed horror film Tusk.

The beginning of September in Toronto is always a special time; the fashion, the celebrities, the food and the nightlife are all in top form. But it’s even better when you get to be in the thick of it surrounded by Hollywood glitterati sipping on bubbles and snacking on some of the best appetizers the city has to offer. Whoever was responsible for the cooking at the Virgin Mobile Movie Lounge really needs to come hang out at our office sometime… or just take up a permanent residence in our kitchen; that would be cool too.
