Maps can be tricky, so here's what you need to know:
- If you live within the blue area, you’re covered by the LTE network.
- If you live within the red area, you're covered by the 4G HSPA+ network.
- If you’re a Member who lives in our regular network area, you can now connect in more places across Manitoba. If you use an LTE or HSPA Virgin Mobile phone (that’s most newer phones), extended coverage is now offered as an extra to our usual coverage.

Extended coverage is available to Virgin Mobile Members with compatible phones for limited and occasional use. Usage within extended coverage is billed as part of your current plan. Just like travelling outside your local area on the Virgin Mobile network, long distance charges apply to incoming calls received while within extended coverage. For outgoing calls, long distance applies if the number called is outside the local calling area of where the call is placed. Long distance charges do not apply if your rate plan or bundle includes Canada-Wide calling. Data speeds will be slower and certain services are not available or limited, including Mobile TV and other video applications. Usage is subject to Virgin Mobile’s Responsible Use Policy restrictions; see virginmobile.ca/responsibleuse. Other conditions apply. For important details see virginmobile.ca/extendedcoverage.
What’s extended coverage? We’ve got answers.
So who’s eligible for extended coverage anyway?
You are, if you’re a Virgin Mobile Member using a phone that’s HSPA or LTE equipped (as most newer phones are). The extended coverage is for occasional use, as kind of an extra for Members who use our regular network most of the time. It’s not available for Manitoba Members who live outside our regular network coverage area. We can only hook up new Members in areas with our regular coverage, not any who live in the new extended coverage area.

Are there limitations to the extended coverage I should know about?
The extended coverage is offered as an extra to our usual coverage. That means the majority of your usage on a monthly basis has to be within Virgin Mobile’s own coverage area (see virginmobile.ca/coverage).
Just a heads-up that if the majority of your usage happens within the extended coverage area on an ongoing basis, we might have to restrict or limit your access. Our Responsible Use Policy also applies to usage in the extended coverage area. Get more info at virginmobile.ca/responsibleuse.
How is usage within the extended coverage area billed?
We bill usage within the extended coverage area as part of your current plan. Just like travelling outside your local area on the Virgin Mobile network, long distance charges apply to incoming calls received while within extended coverage. For outgoing calls, long distance applies if the number called is outside the local calling area of where the call is placed. Of course, long distance charges don’t apply if your rate plan or bundle includes Canada-Wide calling.
Will my experience be different in the extended coverage area?
A little bit, yes. You’ll probably notice that data speeds will generally be slower, and certain services are not available or limited, like Mobile TV and other video applications. The network icon on your phone will show EXT instead of Virgin when you’re in our extended coverage area.
Note that we and our roaming partners may, without notice, change Networks or geographical coverage areas (both in and out of Canada) and remember that Virgin Mobile isn’t liable for any loss you or anyone else may suffer as a result of any disruptions or outages to the Services, or as a result of any changes to the Networks or geographical coverage areas (both in and out of Canada).
