Understanding Your E-bill

Check out this sample bill to see what we're talking about.

Your first bill will be a little different from all the rest, so be sure to check the deets.

Your first bill

If this is your first bill from Virgin Mobile, it'll be a little different than all your future bills. Don’t sweat it.

Your first bill will include some 'one-time' charges, like your phone activation fee. We bill your rate plan one month in advance so you should see some prorated charges (for services from the day you activated to the start of your billing date) on top of the monthly recurring charge for the next month. These prorated charges mean that your first bill might be higher than you expected. Your next bill won't have any prorated charges and so will probably be closer to what you expected.

Heads-up! Although your rate plan is prorated, your airtime isn’t! You’ll get the full amount of minutes, texts, long distance and data from your activation date to the start of your regular billing cycle.

ADDING STUFF TO YOUR ACCOUNT

We bill you one month in advance. When you ask for a change in your rate plan or services, the change goes through almost immediately and we adjust your monthly bill to match that. You'll see three things because of this change on your next bill:

  • A prorated credit that covers the time your previous rate plan or service wasn't being used
  • A prorated charge for the time you're on the new rate plan or service for the current month
  • The regular monthly charge for the new rate plan or service that you picked.

Heads-up! If you have a voice-only plan and decide to add a data feature the proration will happen as usual, but you’ll still get the full data right when you hook it up.

Today is September 27th and your monthly bill date is October 1st. You change your rate plan from myPlan 35 ($35 with 200 minutes of airtime) to myPlan25 ($25 with 100 minutes of airtime).

Account Summary

Account Information

This section includes stuff like your bill date, mobile number, account number and 14-digit Client ID Number.

This section includes stuff like

  • Your bill date. This is the day each month when we add up your bill and send you a complete breakdown with all your charges.
  • Your mobile number. You'll need your mobile phone number or your account number if you want to call in to us to make payments.
  • Your account number. You'll need your 9-digit account number or your mobile phone number to make payments and to make sure we've got the right account if you call in and talk to a Member Care Specialist. You'll also need your account number when you register online for My Account.
  • Your 14-digit Client ID Number. This is what you'd use to make payments with online or telephone banking.

Account Summary

This section summarizes your current charges.

This section covers all of your current charges, like:

  • Monthly charges
  • Other charges and credits
  • Usage and long distance
  • Total taxes on current charges
  • Breakdown of taxes
  • Total amount due and specific due date

On future bills, the Account Summary page will show the previous balance, payments made and any late payment charges applied to the account since the previous bill.

Current Charges

Monthly Charges

This section lists all the monthly charges for rate plans and features that are billed one month in advance.

This section lists all the monthly charges for rate plans and features that are billed one month in advance. You'll see the name of your rate plan and the features you've picked. In this example, if your bill date is the 4th, monthly charges will be from the 4th of this month to the 3rd of the next month.

On top of that, you'll see a monthly e911 Fee. The e911 fee covers the costs of providing wireless access to emergency 911 access.

Other charges and credits

This section covers any pro-rated monthly charges and credits that have been put on to your account, but only for the time between the date you activated and your regular bill date.

  • All feature you've added on
  • Your rate plan
  • Any promotional features or airtime

We talked about pro-ration before, but here's an example of how it works. If an account is activated on the 30th and the bill date is the 4th, then there will be pro-rated charges only for those 5 days. Here's how we add it all up:

Charge
Plan or feature monthly charge ÷ 30 × number of days the plan or feature was active. $35 monthly rate plan / 30 calendar days = $1.16. This give us a daily breakdown $1.16 daily cost of rate plan × 5 days (activation date to billing date) = $4.67
Credit
plan or feature recurring charge ÷ 30 × number of days left from the time of the cancellation until the next bill date.
Usage
Included minutes ÷ 30 × number of days the plan or feature was active

This also applies to features, usage, long distance and data.

Usage

Additional usage charges are incurred on any services you use outside of those included in your regular monthly rate plan and are billed for the previous month.

This is where any additional usage charges from the previous month are added up. This is all the stuff that might not be included in your regular monthly rate plan, like:

  • Additional airtime above what's included in your rate plan
  • Long distance calls
  • Text messages
  • Mobile Browser
  • Music downloads
  • Roaming fees

Finally, over here we've got a little info section that shows you:

  • Any discounts you might have gotten that month for the month
  • An Event Summary of the total number of text messaging and downloads
  • Your Packet Plan Usage Summary, which shows the total amount of data you used in megabytes
