The loveable Mandy Moore launches new Virgin Love Button app

TORONTO (ONTARIO) March 15, 2011

Virgin Mobile’s Love-Fest to take over the streets of Toronto

The more you love, the more you raise for relief efforts in Japan

“With a Love Button, I’d get to share those special posts, pages and photos that I don’t just like – I love,” says Mandy. “I get what the button is about. I don’t want to just like things on my profile but love them, especially things like comments from fans or news about my favourite artists.”

Ready to share the love? Until the Love Button is official on Facebook, Virgin Mobile is introducing a new app that lets fans start loving on Facebook today. Plus, the Love Movement is ready to take to the street at a public Love-Fest where people will call on Facebook to make the Love Button an official Facebook feature. The March 28 protest will swarm the streets of Toronto and welcome all supporters who are ready to convince Facebook that they need the Love Button!

No more like, spread the love now!

Until it’s officially on Facebook, the Virgin Love Button is a downloadable Facebook app that lets people love their fave pics, statuses, pages and links instead of just liking them. To get the app, fans can hop over to love.virginmobile.ca to sign the online petition to support the love movement and then they can get the app and start loving ASAP! Even better, for the first half million items loved on Facebook through the Virgin Love Button app, Virgin Mobile will make a $.05 donation to the Red Cross and relief efforts in Japan. Those who want to give some extra love can also give to the Red Cross from by texting ASIA to 30333 to donate $5.

“At Virgin Mobile, we’re all about pushing the boundaries and trying to deliver to customers what they really want,” says Robert Blumenthal, President, Virgin Mobile Canada. “Facebook is one of the largest social media tools in the world – and we’re challenging them to be even better by letting people spread the love. I’d love the Red Cross, especially, because each time you love something, you’re giving back and helping to support the work they’re doing to help those devastated by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.”

Join the movement

Virgin Mobile’s Love-Fest is taking over the intersection of Toronto’s Bay and Bloor Streets at noon on March 28 to make the Love Button official. Complete with group cheers, sexy signage, and ghetto blasters blaring love tunes – it’s a no-holds-barred protest in the name of love. To join the movement and protest at the Love-Fest, check out facebook.com/virginmobilecan for the event invite.

“The Love-Fest is sure to get Facebook’s attention,” says Nathan Rosenberg, Chief Marketing Officer, Virgin Mobile. “We’ve got demonstrators, picket signs and cheers to get people pumped up for a love-filled street party. We all want to share the love and we’re going to start with the Love Button!”
